1 Using recordmydesktop under Ubuntu (karmic)

I want to describe how to make video-podcast using recordmydesktop under Ubuntu karmic

1.1 Installation

sudo aptitude install gtk-recordmydesktop jack
sudo aptitude install non-free-codecs
sudo aptitude install libavcodec-unstripped-52

1.2 Configuration

There is not much to confugurate. Maybe set the Audio and Video qaulity and the place you want to temporaly record to

1.3 Record

  1. Start record my desktop
  2. Klick on "Save to" and select the place where you want your new video-podcast to be saved to
  3. Press richt click on the red-cicle in your taskbar and klick on "show hide main window"
  4. Now press once again on that red-cicle and chose "select area on scree"
    1. Drag and drop a rectangle arround the area on your desktop, you further want to record
  5. Now press left klick on that cycle when you want to start recording
